Sweet banana cake topped with a rich and creamy cream cheese frosting. This will be a blast from the past reminiscent of Sara Lees banana cake bars. These bars are so moist they will practically melt in your mouth.
Homemade Banana Bars (Sara Lee Banana Cake)

INGREDIENTS
Cake
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup (8oz) sour cream
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3 ripe bananas mashed (about 1 cup)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Frosting
- 1/2 pkg (4oz) cream cheese
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 tsp vanilla
- Up to 4 cups of powdered sugar to achieve desired consistency (I use 3 1/2)
INSTRUCTIONS
- In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, sour cream, and vanilla. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Stir in bananas.
- Spread into a greased 15x10x1 baking pan (or make 2 cakes in 2 large square pans). Bake at 350 for 15-20 mins or until knife comes out clean. Cool.
- For the delicious frosting. Beat cream cheese, butter, and vanilla. Gradually add up to 4 cups of powdered sugar to achieve desired consistency. May need to add a tsp of water or so. Frost bars and freeze or refrigerate.
